The Role of Music in Nation Building: and the need for change in the music industry

The music industry!!! One of the most powerful tools for influencing, governing, and changing the mind and destiny of the people/nation....
As soothing, comforting and divine as the sound of a song can be to the soul, it can be very devilish and a dangerous tool in the wrong hands.
We claim that we are building a nation but are we?
how is a nation built? I feel that influencers (public figures) play a huge role in making or building a nation. By influencers, I mean musicians. Today the fastest way to become a huge influencer is Via the music industry, they make songs and the world is careless of where the inspiration of the song comes from or even the person of the song (the Spirit of the song) or the Singer.
Music plays a huge role in making and building a culture or vibe to sway people...Guess what? an average kid in Nigeria can sing a whole album and know almost every word of the songs... I am not trying to talk down or bad mouth musicians, but, most of what is taught or what they teach is evil and misleading. Yes, I used the word "Teach" because musicians are also teachers and the average teenager ingests/feeds on their song(ideas and orientations) into their mind and life for long periods... Time and time again, generations upon generations are misled because musicians are automatically leaders, teachers and rulers... in the long run they affect/influence the belief system of the people, which has a huge role to play in the attitude of the youth, which further determines the character of the people or the mindset of a generation, and you can just imagine how far this can go in building the nation, most youths in Nigeria listen to these songs for vibe and motivation on a repeat every day, what do you expect would be the outcome of our nation... (songs that lack the life and teachings of love and of a God) a lot of people are behaving like the superstars they watch on their TV screen and practising the things they watch in music videos or trends. It is painful to watch people being controlled by wrong doctrines and mentalities, orientations that are fallible and devilish... I can’t imagine my loved one continuing in this school of thought, where chaos, alcoholism and drugs are taught as a way of life. I can’t begin to mention many songs and albums just centered on drugs and illicit use of medicine, glamourous and flamboyant living, unreasonable and unwise ways of life, smoking, drunkenness, and worse of all the way ladies are portrayed and viewed as sex objects, I can't help but wonder what mentality an innocent male child listening to these songs will have of a lady ... what continues to shock me is the fact that these people (musician) are being promoted to do more and endorsed by companies and industries too. Well, the people love them too, even though they know somewhere in their hearts the implication... this is so painful, my pain is that we are trying to build the nation, but the nation is being torn apart by us too.
It’s not about a song being Hip-hop or not but the source of the hip-hop song and the fruit it produces... You would agree with me that we become like (tend toward) who we listen to right!? And "Birds of the same feather flock together." right? That simply shows that we must all individually and as a nation fight what we do not want for the coming generation.
I believe this is why God says "Guide your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life".
This can also mean to guide (the younger ones) against corruption, thuggery, immorality, etc. Because they are the future of tomorrow... Our today as a nation can be seen as what we allowed and refused to guide against in the history of the nation.
Train up your child in the way he should go, when he grows up he will not depart from it.

A new breed of musicians must arise, ones that know and fear God, ones that know the laws of God, and practice it, ones whose lives tell and show forth the glory, and the likeness of God.
My advice for secular musicians would be to repent and subscribe to the light of God...
My advice for upcoming generation is don't hide the light, channel it in the right direction and you can make the world a better place.
